CSR Phillippines: Making A Difference in The Community

Imagine not having enough food for your family every other week, and the only thing you can get your hands on are scraps and leftovers thrown into bins outside food joints…
This is the harsh reality that generations of families in Tondo, Manila have faced.

Tondo is known as one of the most impoverished slum areas in Manila. People living here are among the poorest in the Philippines. Children rarely get a full meal each day, and parents often do whatever they can to feed their kids first, going hungry themselves or surviving on leftovers.

Many families are headed by single parents, and there are countless orphans living among them. Some parents are in jail, missing, or have lost their lives due to various circumstances. Children are often left on their own, and relatives or neighbours, despite their own struggles, have no choice but to take them in.

We are working alongside a local church in Tondo that reaches out to these families. Church volunteers share the gospel, plant seeds of hope and love, and provide simple meals for children and adults when possible. These meals—often just rice, boiled eggs, and vegetables—might be the only full meal they have all week.

The church also runs a preschool to teach basic literacy, so children can qualify for enrollment in elementary school. Without these skills, many are turned away. While some parents manage to scrape together enough to send their children to school, others are not so fortunate. Many children end up following in their parents’ footsteps, collecting scraps from dumps to survive.

But there is hope. We are partnering with the church to break this cycle of poverty by supporting education and practical skills training. The church needs sponsorship to pay preschool teachers, hire professionals to teach vocational skills to youths, and fund feeding programs and school sponsorships for both elementary and high school students.

We welcome:

  • Cash donations to hire teachers and professionals
  • Child sponsorships for schooling
  • Support for feeding programs via one-time, weekly, or monthly donations of meals, groceries, or hygiene essentials

It only takes SGD$100 to sponsor a child for a month of food, essentials and education.
Together we can make a difference to break the cycle of poverty for these children.

Companies interested in visiting are also welcome. Your team can physically hand out donations, host interactive outings for the children (many of whom have never even visited key local landmarks), or conduct simple English lessons using materials you provide.

The possibilities are endless for companies looking to give back. You can even make this part of your incentive trip to the Philippines—a unique blend of CSR and corporate retreat.
